Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 25, 2026
This policy describes what data typespeedtest.com (the "site") collects and how it's handled. The site is operated by one person.
What I don't collect
I don't require accounts, logins, or personal information to use the typing test. There are no marketing trackers, advertising pixels, or third-party scripts beyond what's listed below.
Analytics
I use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site — pages viewed, test starts, basic browser and country-level location. The GA4 configuration on this site is set up to be as privacy-respecting as GA4 allows:
- Google Signals is disabled. No cross-device tracking, demographic profiling, or interest reporting.
- Advertising features are disabled. Data isn't shared with Google's advertising network and isn't available for remarketing.
- Data retention is set to 2 months — the minimum GA4 allows. Older event-level data is automatically deleted.
- IP addresses are not stored. GA4 uses them briefly to derive country-level location and then discards them.
If you'd rather not be measured at all, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or use any browser extension that blocks GA.
Contact form
The Contact form collects only what you put in it: an email address and a message. Your message is delivered to a private channel I monitor. I'll only use your email to reply to you. I won't add it to a list, share it with anyone, or use it for anything other than answering your message.
The form runs an automated bot-prevention check before your message goes through. That check looks at minimal browser signals to tell humans from bots — it isn't advertising tracking, and may set a temporary cookie on your device.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets cookies (typically _ga and _ga_*) to distinguish visitors and track sessions. The bot-prevention check on the Contact page may also set a temporary cookie. No other cookies are used.
Locally stored data
Your test results, history, and settings (chosen test duration, theme, etc.) are stored in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data, or by using the "Clear history" button on the History page.
Children's privacy
The site isn't directed at children under 13, but it's designed to be safe for general audiences and is used in some classrooms. I don't knowingly collect any information from children, and the site doesn't ask for personal information from anyone.
Changes
I may update this policy as the site evolves. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top.
